6 | 6 | | relating to an exemption from the curriculum requirements for |

7 | 7 | | automatic admission to public institutions of higher education for |
---|
8 | 8 | | certain students affected by a natural disaster. |

9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 51.803(b), Education Code, is amended to |
---|
11 | 11 | | read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | (b) An applicant who does not satisfy the curriculum |
---|
13 | 13 | | requirements prescribed by Subsection (a)(2)(A)(i) or (ii) is |
---|
14 | 14 | | considered to have satisfied those requirements if the student |
---|
15 | 15 | | completed the portion of the recommended or advanced curriculum or |
---|
16 | 16 | | of the curriculum equivalent in content and rigor, as applicable, |
---|
17 | 17 | | that was available to the student but was unable to complete the |
---|
18 | 18 | | remainder of the curriculum solely because courses necessary to |
---|
19 | 19 | | complete the remainder were unavailable to the student at the |
---|
20 | 20 | | appropriate times in the student's high school career as a result of |
---|
21 | 21 | | course scheduling, lack of enrollment capacity, a natural disaster, |
---|
22 | 22 | | or another cause not within the student's control. |
---|
23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
24 | 24 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
25 | 25 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
26 | 26 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
27 | 27 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
