99 relating to the participation of the medical school at Texas Tech
1010 University Health Sciences Center at El Paso in the Joint Admission
1111 Medical Program.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 51.821(4), Education Code, is amended to
1414 read as follows:
1515 (4) "Participating medical school" means each of the
1616 following entities:
1717 (A) the medical school at The University of Texas
1818 Health Science Center at Houston;
1919 (B) the medical school at The University of Texas
2020 Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas;
2121 (C) the medical school at The University of Texas
2222 Health Science Center at San Antonio;
2323 (D) the medical school at The University of Texas
2424 Medical Branch at Galveston;
2525 (E) the medical school at Texas Tech University
2626 Health Sciences Center at Lubbock;
2727 (F) the medical school at Texas Tech University
2828 Health Sciences Center at El Paso;
2929 (G) the Baylor College of Medicine;
3030 (H) [(G)] the college of osteopathic medicine at
3131 the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth;
3232 and
3333 (I) [(H)] the medical school at The Texas A&M
3434 University System Health Science Center.
3535 SECTION 2. (a) As soon as practicable after the effective
3636 date of this Act, the medical school at Texas Tech University Health
3737 Sciences Center at El Paso shall:
3838 (1) enter into the agreement with the Joint Admission
3939 Medical Program Council required by Section 51.829, Education Code;
4040 and
4141 (2) select an appropriate faculty member to represent
4242 the medical school on the council.
4343 (b) The medical school shall provide internships and
4444 mentoring under the Joint Admission Medical Program as appropriate
4545 beginning with the 2011-2012 academic year, but is not required
4646 before the 2012-2013 academic year to admit participating students
4747 to the medical school under the program.
4848 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4949 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
5050 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
5151 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
5252 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
