 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to a study regarding the Battleship "Texas."
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. STUDY. (a) The Parks and Wildlife Department
 shall contract for the performance of a study regarding the
 feasibility of restoring and moving the Battleship "Texas."
 (b) Not later than January 1, 2010, the Parks and Wildlife
 Department shall issue a request for proposals that specifies the
 parameters of the study described by Subsection (a) of this
 section. The request for proposals must require an investigation
 into the feasibility of:
 (1) the restoration of the ship at its current
 location;
 (2) the relocation of the ship to another location,
 including evaluations of possible locations;
 (3) the construction of a visitor's center at the
 ship's current or future location; and
 (4) any other options the department considers useful.
 (c) Not later than September 1, 2010, the Parks and Wildlife
 Department shall report the results of the study conducted under
 this section to the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the
 speaker of the house of representatives and to the members of the
 committee in each house of the legislature with primary
 jurisdiction over historic sites.
 SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September
 1, 2009.
