| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. STUDY. (a) The Parks and Wildlife Department | |
| 10 | 10 | shall contract for the performance of a study regarding the | |
| 11 | 11 | feasibility of restoring and moving the Battleship "Texas." | |
| 12 | 12 | (b) Not later than January 1, 2010, the Parks and Wildlife | |
| 13 | 13 | Department shall issue a request for proposals that specifies the | |
| 14 | 14 | parameters of the study described by Subsection (a) of this | |
| 15 | 15 | section. The request for proposals must require an investigation | |
| 16 | 16 | into the feasibility of: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) the restoration of the ship at its current | |
| 18 | 18 | location; | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) the relocation of the ship to another location, | |
| 20 | 20 | including evaluations of possible locations; | |
| 21 | 21 | (3) the construction of a visitor's center at the | |
| 22 | 22 | ship's current or future location; and | |
| 23 | 23 | (4) any other options the department considers useful. | |
| 24 | 24 | (c) Not later than September 1, 2010, the Parks and Wildlife | |
| 25 | 25 | Department shall report the results of the study conducted under | |
| 26 | 26 | this section to the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the | |
| 27 | 27 | speaker of the house of representatives and to the members of the | |
| 28 | 28 | committee in each house of the legislature with primary | |
| 29 | 29 | jurisdiction over historic sites. | |
| 30 | 30 | SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September | |
| 31 | 31 | 1, 2009. |
