7 | 7 | relating to health and human services programs designed to assist | |
8 | 8 | elderly individuals. | |
9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. The Health and Human Services Commission shall | |
11 | 11 | develop recommendations and implement policies designed to assist | |
12 | 12 | elderly individuals in the community, including: | |
13 | 13 | (1) reducing interest lists for community-based | |
14 | 14 | Medicaid waiver programs; | |
15 | 15 | (2) exploring strategies to support informal | |
16 | 16 | caregivers, including the provision of respite services; | |
17 | 17 | (3) streamlining the licensing, casework, and | |
18 | 18 | reporting requirements for community care providers; | |
19 | 19 | (4) supporting community-based and volunteer-driven | |
20 | 20 | initiatives to provide elderly individuals with services in the | |
21 | 21 | individuals' homes; and | |
22 | 22 | (5) supporting initiatives intended to help prevent | |
23 | 23 | accidents in the home that hasten the need for facility-based care, | |
24 | 24 | including fall prevention initiatives. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
26 | 26 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
27 | 27 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
28 | 28 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
29 | 29 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
