77 relating to an electronic means for voters to determine the status
88 of ballots submitted by mail.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 86.011, Election Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1212 (e) This subsection applies only to an election held in a
1313 county with a population of 20,000 or more in which a federal office
1414 appears on the ballot. The early voting clerk shall make the unique
1515 identification number described by Section 86.013(h) available on
1616 the county's website and indicate whether the return of the
1717 official carrier envelope associated with the number is timely.
1818 SECTION 2. Section 86.013, Election Code, is amended by
1919 adding Subsection (h) to read as follows:
2020 (h) This subsection applies only to an election held in a
2121 county with a population of 20,000 or more in which a federal office
2222 appears on the ballot. The secretary of state by rule shall require
2323 that a detachable receipt be attached to the official carrier
2424 envelope and a unique identification number be printed on the
2525 receipt and the reverse side of the envelope.
2626 SECTION 3. Sections 86.011(e) and 86.013(h), Election Code,
2727 as added by this Act, apply only to an election ordered on or after
2828 September 1, 2009.
2929 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
