44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to the composition of the Texas Medical Board.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 152.002(a), Occupations Code, is amended
99 to read as follows:
1010 (a) The board consists of 31 [19] members appointed by the
1111 governor with the advice and consent of the senate as follows:
1212 (1) twelve members who are learned and eminent
1313 physicians licensed in this state for at least three years before
1414 the appointment, nine of whom must be graduates of a reputable
1515 medical school or college with a degree of doctor of medicine (M.D.)
1616 and three of whom must be graduates of a reputable medical school or
1717 college with a degree of doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.);
1818 (2) twelve members who are learned and eminent
1919 non-physician health care providers in this state for at least
2020 three years before the appointment, two of whom shall be licensed
2121 therapeutic optometrists, two of whom shall be licensed dentists,
2222 two of whom shall be licensed podiatrists, two of whom shall be
2323 licensed chiropractors, two of whom shall be licensed nurses and
2424 two of whom shall be licensed acupuncturists; and
2525 (3) [(2)] seven members who represent the public.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
