77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Chapter 607, Government Code, is amended by
99 adding Subchapter C to read as follows:
1010 SUBCHAPTER C. OTHER DISEASES OR ILLNESSES SUFFERED BY FIREFIGHTERS
1111 AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS
1212 Sec. 607.101. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter:
1313 (1) "Emergency medical technician" means an
1414 individual who is certified as an emergency medical technician by
1515 the Department of State Health Services as provided by Chapter 773,
1616 Health and Safety Code, and who is a full-time employee of a
1717 political subdivision.
1818 (2) "Firefighter" means an individual who is defined
1919 as fire protection personnel under Section 419.021 and is a
2020 full-time employee of a political subdivision.
2121 Sec. 607.102. NOTIFICATION. A firefighter or emergency
2222 medical technician who is exposed to methicillin-resistant
2323 Staphylococcus aureus is entitled to receive notification of the
2424 exposure in the manner prescribed by Section 81.048, Health and
2525 Safety Code.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
