| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 607, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | adding Subchapter C to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | SUBCHAPTER C. OTHER DISEASES OR ILLNESSES SUFFERED BY FIREFIGHTERS |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 607.101. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) "Emergency medical technician" means an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | individual who is certified as an emergency medical technician by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Department of State Health Services as provided by Chapter 773, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Health and Safety Code, and who is a full-time employee of a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | political subdivision. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) "Firefighter" means an individual who is defined |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as fire protection personnel under Section 419.021 and is a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | full-time employee of a political subdivision. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Sec. 607.102. NOTIFICATION. A firefighter or emergency |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | medical technician who is exposed to methicillin-resistant |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Staphylococcus aureus is entitled to receive notification of the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | exposure in the manner prescribed by Section 81.048, Health and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Safety Code. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
