| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 11, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 11.177 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 11.177. DISTRICT WEBSITE: LINKS TO STATE AND FEDERAL |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | EDUCATION AGENCIES. A school district that maintains an Internet |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | website shall make available to the public on the website: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) a link to the agency's Internet website; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) a link to the United States Department of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Education Internet website. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Chapter 26, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Section 26.017 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Sec. 26.017. INFORMATION IN STUDENT HANDBOOK. Each school |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | district shall publish general information regarding the agency and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the United States Department of Education in the district's student |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | handbook. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | school year. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
