7 | 7 | | relating to the fund for veterans' assistance. |

8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Sections 434.017(c) and (e), Government Code, as |
---|
10 | 10 | | redesignated and amended by Chapter 1418 (H.B. 3107), Acts of the |
---|
11 | 11 | | 80th Legislature, Regular Session, 2007, are amended to read as |
---|
12 | 12 | | follows: |
---|
13 | 13 | | (c) Money in the fund may be appropriated to the Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | Veterans Commission to: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (1) enhance or improve veterans' assistance programs, |
---|
16 | 16 | | including veterans' representation and counseling; [and] |
---|
17 | 17 | | (2) make grants to [local communities to] address |
---|
18 | 18 | | veterans' needs; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | (3) administer the fund. |
---|
20 | 20 | | (e) To carry out any purpose of this chapter, the Texas |
---|
21 | 21 | | Veterans Commission may accept a gift, grant, devise, bequest of |
---|
22 | 22 | | money, security, service, or property, including money raised or a |
---|
23 | 23 | | service provided by a volunteer or volunteer group, to promote the |
---|
24 | 24 | | work of the commission. The commission may participate in the |
---|
25 | 25 | | establishment and operation of an affiliated nonprofit |
---|
26 | 26 | | organization that is established for the purpose of raising money |
---|
27 | 27 | | for or providing services or other benefits to the commission [The |
---|
28 | 28 | | comptroller may solicit and accept gifts and grants to the fund. A |
---|
29 | 29 | | gift or grant to the fund may be appropriated in the same manner as |
---|
30 | 30 | | other money in the fund, subject to any limitation or requirement |
---|
31 | 31 | | placed on the gift or grant by the donor or granting entity]. |
---|
32 | 32 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
