| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 521.142(a), Transportation Code, is | |
| 12 | 12 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | (a) An application for an original license must state the | |
| 14 | 14 | applicant's full name and place and date of birth. This information | |
| 15 | 15 | must be verified by presentation of proof of identity satisfactory | |
| 16 | 16 | to the department. [The department must accept as satisfactory | |
| 17 | 17 | proof of identity under this subsection an offender identification | |
| 18 | 18 | card or similar form of identification issued to an inmate by the | |
| 19 | 19 | Texas Department of Criminal Justice.] | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. Section 522.021(c-1), Transportation Code, is | |
| 21 | 21 | repealed. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | |
| 23 | 23 | an application for a driver's license or commercial driver's | |
| 24 | 24 | license submitted on or after the effective date of this Act. An | |
| 25 | 25 | application for a driver's license or commercial driver's license | |
| 26 | 26 | submitted before the effective date of this Act is subject to the | |
| 27 | 27 | law in effect on the date the application was submitted, and that | |
| 28 | 28 | law is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
