| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 101.006(a), Election Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) The submission of a federal postcard application that | |
| 13 | 13 | complies with the applicable requirements by an unregistered | |
| 14 | 14 | applicant constitutes registration by the applicant: [only] | |
| 15 | 15 | (1) for the purpose of voting in the election for which | |
| 16 | 16 | a ballot is requested; and | |
| 17 | 17 | (2) under Title 2 if the application contains the | |
| 18 | 18 | information that is required for registration under that title | |
| 19 | 19 | [each election that occurs on or before the date of the second | |
| 20 | 20 | general election for state and county officers that occurs after | |
| 21 | 21 | the date the application is submitted]. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
