| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 601.262(c), Transportation Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (c) The evidence of financial responsibility must cover the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | two-year period immediately following the date the defendant |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | applies for release of the impounded vehicle. The court, by order, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | shall permit a defendant to provide evidence of insurability in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | increments of a period of not less than six months. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
