| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 78, Education Code, is amended by adding | |
| 11 | 11 | Section 78.11 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 78.11. SCHOOL OF LAW. (a) The board shall establish | |
| 13 | 13 | and maintain a school of law as a professional school of the | |
| 14 | 14 | university. | |
| 15 | 15 | (b) The board may prescribe courses leading to customary | |
| 16 | 16 | degrees offered at other leading American schools of law and may | |
| 17 | 17 | award those degrees. | |
| 18 | 18 | (c) The school of law shall be located in Cameron County. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Not later than December 1, 2009, the Texas | |
| 20 | 20 | Higher Education Coordinating Board shall prepare a feasibility | |
| 21 | 21 | study to assist the board of regents of The University of Texas | |
| 22 | 22 | System in establishing a law school as provided by this Act. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 24 | 24 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 25 | 25 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 27 | 27 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
