77 relating to designating August as American Indian Scouts Month.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 662.106. AMERICAN INDIAN SCOUTS MONTH. (a) August is
1212 American Indian Scouts Month to recognize as Texas heroes the
1313 Native American scouts who served with the United States Army
1414 during the frontier era of the middle to late 1800s and celebrate
1515 the contributions of those individuals as marking a meaningful
1616 chapter in the saga of this nation.
1717 (b) American Indian Scouts Month shall be regularly
1818 observed by appropriate celebrations and activities.
1919 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2020 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2121 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2222 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2323 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
