8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is | |
10 | 10 | amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 662.106. AMERICAN INDIAN SCOUTS MONTH. (a) August is | |
12 | 12 | American Indian Scouts Month to recognize as Texas heroes the | |
13 | 13 | Native American scouts who served with the United States Army | |
14 | 14 | during the frontier era of the middle to late 1800s and celebrate | |
15 | 15 | the contributions of those individuals as marking a meaningful | |
16 | 16 | chapter in the saga of this nation. | |
17 | 17 | (b) American Indian Scouts Month shall be regularly | |
18 | 18 | observed by appropriate celebrations and activities. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
