77 relating to the creation of a hotline to report suspected incidents
88 of impaired driving or dangerous driving.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 411.053 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 411.053. IMPAIRED OR DANGEROUS DRIVING HOTLINE. (a)
1313 The department shall develop and operate a 24-hour-a-day hotline
1414 for persons to report incidents of suspected driving while
1515 intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol, controlled
1616 substances, or drugs and dangerous driving to the department.
1717 (b) The hotline must enable a person to report an incident
1818 described by Subsection (a) to the department by:
1919 (1) calling a toll-free telephone number;
2020 (2) using an Internet website; or
2121 (3) using other means of electronic communication,
2222 including:
2323 (A) e-mail message transmission; or
2424 (B) text messaging.
2525 (c) The department, as soon as practicable, shall forward a
2626 report received on the hotline to the municipal police department
2727 or sheriff's office with jurisdiction over the matter.
2828 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
