9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 411, Government Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 411.053 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 411.053. IMPAIRED OR DANGEROUS DRIVING HOTLINE. (a) | |
13 | 13 | The department shall develop and operate a 24-hour-a-day hotline | |
14 | 14 | for persons to report incidents of suspected driving while | |
15 | 15 | intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol, controlled | |
16 | 16 | substances, or drugs and dangerous driving to the department. | |
17 | 17 | (b) The hotline must enable a person to report an incident | |
18 | 18 | described by Subsection (a) to the department by: | |
19 | 19 | (1) calling a toll-free telephone number; | |
20 | 20 | (2) using an Internet website; or | |
21 | 21 | (3) using other means of electronic communication, | |
22 | 22 | including: | |
23 | 23 | (A) e-mail message transmission; or | |
24 | 24 | (B) text messaging. | |
25 | 25 | (c) The department, as soon as practicable, shall forward a | |
26 | 26 | report received on the hotline to the municipal police department | |
27 | 27 | or sheriff's office with jurisdiction over the matter. | |
28 | 28 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
