| 5 | 5 | | relating to the issuance of specialty license plates for disabled |

| 6 | 6 | | veterans. |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Sections 504.202(b) and (g), Transportation |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Code, are amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (b) A veteran of the United States armed forces is entitled |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to register, for the person's own use, [two] motor vehicles under |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | this section if: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) the person has suffered, as a result of military |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | service: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (A) at least a 50 percent service-connected |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | disability; or |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (B) a 40 percent service-connected disability |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | because of the amputation of a lower extremity; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) the person receives compensation from the United |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | States because of the disability; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (3) the motor vehicle: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (A) is owned by the person; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (B) has a manufacturer's rated carrying capacity |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of two tons or less. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (g) A person who receives [two sets of] license plates under |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | this section may receive a [two] disabled parking placard |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | [placards] under Section 681.004 for each set of license plates |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | without providing additional documentation. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
