55 relating to the issuance of specialty license plates for disabled
66 veterans.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Sections 504.202(b) and (g), Transportation
99 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1010 (b) A veteran of the United States armed forces is entitled
1111 to register, for the person's own use, [two] motor vehicles under
1212 this section if:
1313 (1) the person has suffered, as a result of military
1414 service:
1515 (A) at least a 50 percent service-connected
1616 disability; or
1717 (B) a 40 percent service-connected disability
1818 because of the amputation of a lower extremity;
1919 (2) the person receives compensation from the United
2020 States because of the disability; and
2121 (3) the motor vehicle:
2222 (A) is owned by the person; and
2323 (B) has a manufacturer's rated carrying capacity
2424 of two tons or less.
2525 (g) A person who receives [two sets of] license plates under
2626 this section may receive a [two] disabled parking placard
2727 [placards] under Section 681.004 for each set of license plates
2828 without providing additional documentation.
2929 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
