55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to requiring the court to confer with a child before a
88 protective order hearing.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 84, Family Code, is amended by adding
1111 Section 84.006 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 84.006. CONFERRING WITH CHILD. If a party in a
1313 proceeding under this title files a motion requesting the court to
1414 confer with a child who is a member of the family or household for
1515 which protection is sought or on whose behalf the application for a
1616 protective order is made, the court shall confer with the child in
1717 chambers before the hearing on the application for a protective
1818 order.
1919 SECTION 2. Section 84.006, Family Code, as added by this
2020 Act, applies to a hearing on an application for a protective order
2121 held on or after the effective date of this Act, regardless of the
2222 date the application is filed.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
