44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends of Joe Bob Stone of Paris, Texas,
66 were greatly saddened by his passing on February 2, 2009, at the age
77 of 92; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on December 17, 1916, in Biardstown, to Tom and
99 Beulah Harris Stone, "Fess" Stone grew up with the companionship of
1010 four brothers and three sisters; and
1111 WHEREAS, He graduated from Paris High School and East Texas
1212 State Teachers College and built a notable career in education;
1313 over the course of 44 years, Mr. Stone taught math and coached
1414 basketball in Powderly and at other schools in the area and took on
1515 the added responsibility of driving a school bus; and
1616 WHEREAS, In 1948, he was joined in marriage to the former
1717 Alleen Morrison, and the couple shared a fulfilling relationship
1818 that was further enriched by the addition of two children; through
1919 the years, Mr. Stone took great pleasure in welcoming five
2020 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and seven
2121 great-great-grandchildren into his family; and
2222 WHEREAS, A valued congregant of East Paris Baptist Church,
2323 Fess Stone lived a rewarding life of service to his family and his
2424 community, and he will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts
2525 of those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
2727 hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Bob Stone and extend sincere
2828 sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 60 years,
2929 Alleen Stone; to his son, Jimmy Stone, and his wife, Jan; to his
3030 daughter, Norma Upchurch, and her husband, Wayne; to his
3131 grandchildren and their spouses, Clint and Anna Upchurch, Randy and
3232 Marsha Upchurch, Dale and Michelle Upchurch, Lisa and Neal Coleman,
3333 and Joe Robert Stone; to his nine great-grandchildren and seven
3434 great-great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends;
3535 and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3737 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3838 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
3939 Joe Bob Stone.
