44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
77 of Thomas Shelby Justiss of Fort Worth, who passed away on March 16,
88 2009, at the age of 82; and
99 WHEREAS, A native of Paris, Mr. Justiss was born in 1926 to
1010 Kathryn and Thomas Shelby Justiss, Sr.; active in school, church,
1111 and the Boy Scouts of America, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout
1212 at the age of 15; he went on to attend Paris Junior College and serve
1313 his country in the Army during World War II; and
1414 WHEREAS, Following the war, he earned a bachelor's degree
1515 from Texas A&M University, where he majored in structural
1616 engineering and also participated in the Corps of Cadets and Ross
1717 Volunteers; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mr. Justiss began his career as a field engineer for
1919 the Texas Company in Port Neches; recalled to active duty in 1950,
2020 he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War; he left
2121 military service as a captain and settled in Fort Worth, joining the
2222 staff of Texas Industries; by virtue of his hard work and diligent
2323 service, he retired from the company in 1990 as a divisional vice
2424 president; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Justiss was an active and faithful member of
2626 St. Christopher Episcopal Church, serving the congregation as
2727 church treasurer; a registered professional structural engineer,
2828 he shared his time with the American Society of Civil Engineers and
2929 the Texas Society of Professional Engineers; and
3030 WHEREAS, Dedicated to his family, Mr. Justiss was a loving
3131 husband to his wife of 56 years, Jackie, and a devoted father to his
3232 four precious daughters, Kim, Marci, Gina, and Leanne; and
3333 WHEREAS, Although Thomas Justiss is deeply missed, he will
3434 long be remembered with great affection by those fortunate enough
3535 to have shared in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3737 hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas Shelby Justiss and extend
3838 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jackie
3939 Justiss; to his daughters, Kim and her husband, Jerry Hunter, Marci
4040 and her husband, Calvin Blankenship, Gina and her husband, Byron
4141 Lancaster, and Leanne and her husband, Keith Walker; to his
4242 grandchildren, Patrick Blankenship and his wife, Kailee, James and
4343 Daniel Blankenship, and Katerina and Max Lancaster; and to his
4444 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4848 Thomas Shelby Justiss.
