| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The member clubs of Rotary District 5830 are |

| 6 | 6 | | gathering in Paris, Texas, on May 15 and 16, 2009, for the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | district's annual conference, and this occasion provides a fitting |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | opportunity to honor the many beneficial initiatives of Rotary |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | International and the admirable individuals who make up this |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | regional organization; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Rotary International was founded in 1905 in Chicago |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and has become one of the world's largest nonprofit service groups, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | with some 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs around the globe; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Upholding the motto "Service Above Self," Rotary |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | members have undertaken numerous endeavors to help others; they |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | place a special emphasis on assisting people in developing |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | countries by sponsoring medical, educational, and clean water |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | projects and have been very active in efforts to eradicate polio; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | moreover, Rotary Clubs promote understanding by offering |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | international scholarships, exchange programs, and humanitarian |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | grants; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Rotary District 5830 is composed of 45 clubs that |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | are located in the Piney Woods region of Northeast Texas as well as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in adjacent counties in Oklahoma and Arkansas; these groups have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | had notable success in carrying forth the Rotary mission, and their |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | many accomplishments will be celebrated as part of the district |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | conference; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The annual gathering also includes a range of other |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | enjoyable and inspiring events; legendary football coach Gene |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Stallings is speaking at the kickoff lunch, Group Study Exchange |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | teams from Australia and Finland will make presentations, and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | attendees will have numerous opportunities to socialize and take |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | part in benefit activities to support Rotary projects; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Through their generosity and dedication, the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | members of Rotary District 5830 are striving to make the world a |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | better place, and they may take justifiable pride in their many |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | positive achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | hereby commemorate the Rotary District 5830 Conference and extend |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | to the participants sincere best wishes for a productive gathering; |
