44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
77 of George I. Richardson of Paris, Texas, who passed away on April
88 13, 2009, at the age of 85; and
99 WHEREAS, Born in Lamar County on February 22, 1924, to Thomas
1010 Eugene and Tiney Freeman Richardson, George Richardson graduated
1111 from the Midway School and attended Paris Junior College before
1212 answering his nation's call to duty with service in the U.S. Army
1313 during World War II; he played basketball on the military team and
1414 came very close to qualifying to play on the U.S. Olympic team; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Richardson worked at the Texas Department of
1616 Transportation for nearly four decades and retired as office
1717 manager in the district maintenance engineer's office; he had a
1818 deep passion for music and played the piano, banjo, mandolin,
1919 guitar, and harmonica; a member of three different bands, he
2020 frequently performed for the residents of local nursing homes over
2121 the course of 20 years; he also took a prominent role in many
2222 community activities, serving as president of the Rockford Cemetery
2323 Association and as a member of the Cunningham school board;
2424 moreover, he was a beloved participant in the Paris Rodeo
2525 festivities each year, amusing spectators by riding his donkey at
2626 the event; and
2727 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Richardson enjoyed the
2828 love and support of his wife, the former Maureen Gordon, with whom
2929 he shared 62 years; the couple raised two children, Ron and Gerrie,
3030 and with the passing years welcomed into the family three
3131 grandchildren, Jerrod, Kristi, and Chance, and three
3232 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Ashlyn, and Gage; Mr. Richardson was a
3333 proud member of Union Church at Taylortown, where he was active in
3434 the music ministry, and he taught at several churches over the
3535 course of his six-decade tenure as a Sunday school lecturer; and
3636 WHEREAS, With his enduring devotion to his family and his
3737 community, George Richardson made a meaningful difference in the
3838 lives of his neighbors and loved ones, and his contributions will be
3939 fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
4141 hereby pay tribute to the life of George I. Richardson and extend
4242 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Helen
4343 Maureen Gordon Richardson; to his children, Ron Richardson and
4444 Gerrie Bankhead; to his grandchildren, Jerrod Bankhead, Kristi
4545 Callihan and her husband, Bryan, and Chance Bankhead and his
4646 fiancee, Morgan Nickerson; to his great-grandchildren, Kaden and
4747 Ashlyn Callihan and Gage Bankhead; to his sister, Wanda Reid; to his
4848 sister-in-law, Ellen Richardson; and to his other relatives and
4949 friends; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5252 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5353 George Richardson.
