5	5	WHEREAS, The family and friends of Jack Ray Stevenson of
6	6	Bogata were saddened by the passing of this esteemed gentleman on
7	7	April 13, 2009, at the age of 100; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born on June 3, 1908, to Evie and Thomas Jackson
9	9	Stevenson, in Red River Parish, in Louisiana, Jack Stevenson joined
10	10	the workforce at the age of 17, serving as a blacksmith with
11	11	Magnolia Oil Company; he was later transferred to Duncanville,
12	12	where he became a welder and pipefitter for Mobil Oil, retiring
13	13	after 41 years; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson went on to enjoy 41 years in
15	15	retirement; he was active in Cockrell Hill United Methodist Church
16	16	for nearly six decades before moving to Bogata, where he joined the
17	17	local First United Methodist Church and also attended Bogata
18	18	Missionary Baptist Church; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by his first
20	20	wife, Bonnie Mae Haws Stevenson, with whom he shared 56 years;
21	21	fortunate to find love a second time, he married Frances Edna Jones
22	22	and they enjoyed 12 fulfilling years together; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Jack Stevenson touched the lives of many people
24	24	during his 100 years, and those who shared in the warmth of his love
25	25	and friendship will forever hold his memory close in their hearts;
26	26	now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
28	28	hereby pay tribute to the life of Jack Ray Stevenson and extend
29	29	sincere sympathy to his family members: to his daughters, Melba
30	30	Knight and Rene Haney and her husband, Bill; to his sons, Don
31	31	Stevenson and his wife, Gina, and Rob Stevenson and his wife, Carol;
32	32	to his stepdaughters, Barbara Miller and Karen Cude and her
33	33	husband, Martin; to his brother, Rex Stevenson, and his wife,
34	34	Lillian; to his half-brothers, James and Henry Collinsworth; to his
35	35	daughter-in-law, Shirley Stevenson; to his many grandchildren,
36	36	great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and to his
37	37	other relatives and friends; and, be it further
38	38	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
39	39	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
40	40	Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
41	41	Jack Ray Stevenson.
