5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

7 | 7 | | of Alvis Leo Caldwell of Paris, Texas, who passed away on April 23, |

8 | 8 | | 2009, at the age of 82; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born to Marshall and Georgia Caldwell on June 1, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1926, Leo Caldwell attended Paris High School and Paris Junior |
---|
11 | 11 | | College before graduating from the University of Houston School of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Pharmacy; he answered his nation's call to duty during World War II, |
---|
13 | 13 | | serving in Italy and northern Africa as a member of the U.S. Army; a |
---|
14 | 14 | | practicing pharmacist for many years, he worked in the Margraves |
---|
15 | 15 | | family stores and later owned several drugstores; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell was fortunate to find love three times |
---|
17 | 17 | | in his life; he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former |
---|
18 | 18 | | Margie Margraves, as well as by his second wife, the former Octavia |
---|
19 | 19 | | Nolan, and he subsequently shared a rewarding marriage with the |
---|
20 | 20 | | former Ione Robinson; he was the proud father of two children, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Deborah and Paul, and welcomed several grandchildren and |
---|
22 | 22 | | great-grandchildren into his family; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the Paris community, Mr. Caldwell was a |
---|
24 | 24 | | longtime member of the Noon Lions Club, the Elks Lodge, the Paris |
---|
25 | 25 | | High School Athletics Booster Club, and the Knights of Columbus; |
---|
26 | 26 | | and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell took great pleasure in a variety of |
---|
28 | 28 | | pursuits, including raising Black Angus cattle, riding horses, |
---|
29 | 29 | | golfing, and fishing; moreover, he and his wife, Ione, enjoyed |
---|
30 | 30 | | traveling across the country visiting family and spending time with |
---|
31 | 31 | | their close group of friends; he was beloved by all who knew him for |
---|
32 | 32 | | his playful sense of humor, and he enlivened many an occasion with |
---|
33 | 33 | | his harmonica music; he was further known for his devotion to his |
---|
34 | 34 | | dogs, Sugar and Pepper; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although Leo Caldwell will be deeply missed, |
---|
36 | 36 | | memories of his ready smile and characteristic zest for life will |
---|
37 | 37 | | forever be remembered by all those who held him dear; now, |

38 | 38 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
