55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
77 recognize the inaugural class of Governor William P. Clements, Jr.,
88 Scholars, for their commitment to public service and public policy;
99 and
1010 WHEREAS, These young students are participating in the
1111 Conservative Legislative Study Program, which is hosted by the
1212 Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute; this exemplary
1313 program seeks to train, support, and sustain the next generation of
1414 leaders and public servants, instilling in them the values and work
1515 ethic of former Governor William P. Clements, Jr.; and
1616 WHEREAS, Governor William P. Clements, Jr., overcame the
1717 misfortunes that befell his family during the Great Depression to
1818 create the world's largest offshore drilling company; he won an
1919 upset victory to become the state's first Republican governor since
2020 Reconstruction, bringing his business acumen to state government
2121 and focusing on such issues as sound budgeting, crime prevention,
2222 and economic diversification; and
2323 WHEREAS, The Conservative Legislature Study Program is the
2424 only program of its kind to bring conservative students to Austin so
2525 that they may gain valuable experience in leadership and public
2626 service by working directly with members of the Texas Legislature;
2727 and
2828 WHEREAS, The members of the inaugural class of this special
2929 program are Molly Banas, Ben Garner, Grant Cox, and Tony McDonald;
3030 their time at the Texas Legislature will augment their college
3131 coursework in civics, government, and history and will provide a
3232 unique learning experience as they pursue their interest in public
3333 service; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3535 hereby commend the Governor William P. Clements, Jr., Scholars on
3636 their dedication to public policy and service to their state and
3737 nation and extend to them best wishes for success in all their
3838 future endeavors; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for them
4040 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Legislature.
