| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 7 | 7 | | recognize the inaugural class of Governor William P. Clements, Jr., |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Scholars, for their commitment to public service and public policy; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, These young students are participating in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Conservative Legislative Study Program, which is hosted by the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute; this exemplary |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | program seeks to train, support, and sustain the next generation of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | leaders and public servants, instilling in them the values and work |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | ethic of former Governor William P. Clements, Jr.; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Governor William P. Clements, Jr., overcame the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | misfortunes that befell his family during the Great Depression to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | create the world's largest offshore drilling company; he won an |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | upset victory to become the state's first Republican governor since |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Reconstruction, bringing his business acumen to state government |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and focusing on such issues as sound budgeting, crime prevention, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and economic diversification; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Conservative Legislature Study Program is the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | only program of its kind to bring conservative students to Austin so |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | that they may gain valuable experience in leadership and public |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | service by working directly with members of the Texas Legislature; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The members of the inaugural class of this special |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | program are Molly Banas, Ben Garner, Grant Cox, and Tony McDonald; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | their time at the Texas Legislature will augment their college |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | coursework in civics, government, and history and will provide a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | unique learning experience as they pursue their interest in public |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | hereby commend the Governor William P. Clements, Jr., Scholars on |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | their dedication to public policy and service to their state and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | nation and extend to them best wishes for success in all their |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | future endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for them |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | as an expression of high regard from the Texas Legislature. |
