5	5	WHEREAS, The Lucchese Boot Company, whose fame as a maker of
6	6	exquisite, high-quality boots has spread far and wide, celebrated
7	7	its 125th anniversary in 2008; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Established as the Lucchese Boot and Shoe Factory in
9	9	San Antonio in 1883, this venerable Texas firm was founded by Sam
10	10	Lucchese and his brothers, who immigrated to Texas from Italy three
11	11	years earlier; under Sam Lucchese's direction, the company acquired
12	12	an enduring reputation for quality craftsmanship; and
13	13	WHEREAS, During its first several decades, the Lucchese Boot
14	14	Company focused largely on supplying the needs of ranchers and
15	15	cavalrymen; the business began to develop a national reputation
16	16	after Sam Lucchese's son Cosimo assumed leadership of the company
17	17	and began providing boots for celebrities as well; Sam Lucchese,
18	18	Jr., grandson of the founder, subsequently put his own stamp on the
19	19	family business by designing a boot that further added to the
20	20	company's renown; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Today, the Lucchese boot factory is located in El
22	22	Paso, where it produces a wide variety of styles for all occasions;
23	23	the company's skilled artisans have created boots for a
24	24	distinguished roster of clients, ranging from Gary Cooper, John
25	25	Wayne, and Gregory Peck to President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird
26	26	Johnson, and many other notable Texans; and
27	27	WHEREAS, The members of the 81st Texas Legislature wish to
28	28	express their appreciation to Paul LaVoie, President and CEO of the
29	29	Lucchese Boot Company, Doug Kindy, General Manager, and Fred King,
30	30	Director of Marketing, for their extraordinary service to the State
31	31	of Texas; and
32	32	WHEREAS, A classic Texas success story, the Lucchese Boot
33	33	Company exemplifies a pride of craftsmanship that has won it
34	34	recognition across the country and secured it a proud place in the
35	35	western heritage of the Lone Star State; now, therefore be it
36	36	RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
37	37	hereby congratulate Lucchese and commemorate the 125th anniversary
38	38	of the Lucchese Boot Company and extend to all those associated with
39	39	this outstanding enterprise sincere best wishes for continued
40	40	success; and, be it further
41	41	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
42	42	prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
43	43	Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
