5	5	WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Corporal Roy Cisneros of San Antonio
6	6	performed gallant and intrepid service in the Vietnam War; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Born on February 6, 1949, Roy Cisneros attended
8	8	Cenizo Park Elementary School, Truman Middle School, and Edgewood
9	9	High School; following his graduation in 1967, he joined the
10	10	marines and trained at Camp Pendleton, California; in December
11	11	1967, he deployed to Vietnam, where he became a squad leader with
12	12	Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division
13	13	(Reinforced), Fleet Marine Force; and
14	14	WHEREAS, On September 11, 1968, Corporal Cisneros was
15	15	conducting a reconnaissance in force in Quang Tri, the northernmost
16	16	province in the Republic of Vietnam, when his company came under
17	17	intense small arms and automatic weapons fire from an opposing
18	18	company of North Vietnamese soldiers occupying fortified positions
19	19	on a hill; during the ensuing combat, Corporal Cisneros skillfully
20	20	maneuvered his squad across the hazardous terrain and directed his
21	21	men's fire with devastating accuracy, destroying three enemy
22	22	bunkers; and
23	23	WHEREAS, With his squad pinned down by a heavy volume of fire
24	24	from a fourth emplacement, Corporal Cisneros advanced alone and
25	25	sought single-handedly to destroy the position; after firing a
26	26	light antitank assault weapon into the bunker, he hurled hand
27	27	grenades at the defenders and then opened fire with his rifle as he
28	28	aggressively continued his assault; disregarding his own safety, he
29	29	was delivering an effective attack on the emplacement when he was
30	30	mortally wounded; and
31	31	WHEREAS, The resolute determination and fighting spirit
32	32	demonstrated by Corporal Cisneros inspired all who observed him,
33	33	and he was instrumental in his unit's accounting for 45 North
34	34	Vietnamese soldiers confirmed killed; as a result of his actions,
35	35	Corporal Cisneros was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, the
36	36	second highest honor for valor that can be bestowed on a marine; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Through his unhesitating selflessness and his
38	38	steadfast devotion to duty and this country, Corporal Roy Cisneros
39	39	embodied the highest ideals of the United States Marine Corps, and
40	40	his courageous efforts and immeasurable sacrifice are deserving of
41	41	honor by every American; now, therefore, be it
42	42	RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
43	43	hereby posthumously recognize the heroic actions of U.S. Marine
44	44	Corporal Roy Cisneros and express profound appreciation on behalf
45	45	of all Texans; and, be it further
46	46	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
47	47	prepared for his family as an expression of high regard by the Texas
48	48	House of Representatives and Senate.
