55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment to permit the attorney general
77 to prosecute certain offenses arising under the campaign finance
88 laws of this state.
99 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article IV, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1111 adding Section 22a to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 22a. To the extent provided by general law, the
1313 attorney general may represent the state in the district and
1414 inferior courts in the prosecution of criminal and civil offenses
1515 that:
1616 (1) arise under the campaign finance laws of this
1717 state; and
1818 (2) are alleged to have been committed in connection
1919 with:
2020 (A) an election for or the holding of state
2121 office; or
2222 (B) an election on a constitutional amendment.
2323 SECTION 2. The constitutional amendment proposed by this
2424 resolution shall be submitted to the voters at the general election
2525 to be held November 3, 2009. The ballot shall be printed to permit
2626 voting for or against the proposition: "The constitutional
2727 amendment permitting the attorney general to prosecute offenses
2828 that arise under the campaign finance laws of this state and that
2929 are alleged to have been committed in connection with a state office
3030 or an election on a constitutional amendment."
