10 | 10 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 1-b, Article VIII, Texas Constitution, | |
12 | 12 | is amended by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows: | |
13 | 13 | (j) The legislature by general law may exempt from ad | |
14 | 14 | valorem taxation $5,000 of the assessed value of the residence | |
15 | 15 | homestead of a person who serves as a volunteer firefighter or | |
16 | 16 | emergency medical services volunteer. | |
17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
18 | 18 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2009. | |
19 | 19 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
20 | 20 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the | |
21 | 21 | legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation a portion of the | |
22 | 22 | assessed value of the residence homesteads of volunteer | |
23 | 23 | firefighters and emergency medical services volunteers." |
