55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature
77 to exempt from ad valorem taxation a portion of the assessed value
88 of the residence homesteads of volunteer firefighters and emergency
99 medical services volunteers.
1010 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 1-b, Article VIII, Texas Constitution,
1212 is amended by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
1313 (j) The legislature by general law may exempt from ad
1414 valorem taxation $5,000 of the assessed value of the residence
1515 homestead of a person who serves as a volunteer firefighter or
1616 emergency medical services volunteer.
1717 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1818 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2009.
1919 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2020 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the
2121 legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation a portion of the
2222 assessed value of the residence homesteads of volunteer
2323 firefighters and emergency medical services volunteers."
