| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For the third consecutive year, RISD Academy in |

| 6 | 6 | | Dallas was awarded "Recognized" status by the Texas Education |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Agency in 2008; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | accountability rating system for the state's public schools and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | districts; a campus gains "Recognized" status if 75 percent of its |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students pass each of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | subject area tests, and in 2008, only 34 percent of all schools |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | earned this notable distinction; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, An elementary school within the Richardson |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Independent School District, RISD Academy serves 630 students in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the first through sixth grades; skillfully led by principal Carol |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Johnson and assistant principal Lanette Massey, the faculty of RISD |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Academy actively participates in the development of successful and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | independent students, and the institution has been recognized with |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Texas Educator Excellence Grant for the 2008-2009 school year; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The teachers and students of RISD Academy have |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance in their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | justifiable pride in the accolade their school has received from |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor RISD Academy on its achievement of a |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | "Recognized" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2008 and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | extend to its students, teachers, and staff sincere best wishes for |

| 32 | 32 | | continued success; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
