44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A. M. Aikin Elementary School in Dallas was awarded
66 "Exemplary" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and
77 WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from
88 the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an
99 accountability rating system for the state's public schools and
1010 districts; a campus gains "Exemplary" status if at least 90 percent
1111 of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and
1212 Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 12 percent of all
1313 schools in the state earned this notable distinction; and
1414 WHEREAS, Aikin Elementary currently serves an enrollment of
1515 approximately 575 students, and it has been led by Principal
1616 Elizabeth Willis Kackley since December 2003; the school's mission
1717 is to provide a superior education so that children achieve
1818 academic success, show respect for others, and become productive
1919 members of society; its faculty and staff set high standards and
2020 strive to promote a safe and positive learning environment; and
2121 WHEREAS, The teachers and students of Aikin Elementary have
2222 demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance in their
2323 pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take
2424 justifiable pride in the prestigious accolade their school has
2525 received from the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby honor A. M. Aikin Elementary School on its
2828 achievement of an "Exemplary" rating from the Texas Education
2929 Agency in 2008 and extend to its students, teachers, and staff
3030 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3232 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3333 House of Representatives.
