| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Wildcatter Ranch Resort and Spa in Graham joined |

| 6 | 6 | | with the Wounded Warrior Project in February 2009 to host a retreat |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | for veterans; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2007, the Wounded Warrior Project is a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | nonprofit organization that assists members of the military who |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | have been severely injured while serving their country; through its |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Project Odyssey program, the organization sponsors retreats that |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | offer therapeutic recreational experiences in a healing natural |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | environment; counselors provide private and group counseling |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | during the program and help veterans learn coping skills to manage |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | posttraumatic stress disorder, which affects many of those |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Wildcatter Ranch closed to the public for a week in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | order to welcome 15 veterans who struggle with PTSD and other |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | challenges; while in Graham, these individuals enjoyed such |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | activities as horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, and a lesson in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | bull riding; in addition, they were welcomed by students at |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Woodland Elementary School and took part in a traditional healing |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | ritual performed by members of the Eastern Shoshone Nation; over |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the course of their stay at this award-winning resort, participants |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in Project Odyssey were able to benefit from the support and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | camaraderie of fellow veterans who share their issues and concerns; |
|---|

|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The February 2009 Project Odyssey retreat was the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | second such event at Wildcatter Ranch, and the proprietors and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | staff have shown admirable generosity and appreciation to those who |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | have made enormous sacrifices for our country; now, therefore, be |
|---|

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend the owners and staff of Wildcatter Ranch |
