No. 1047 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Through his active participation in public life, Harlingen mayor Chris Boswell has greatly enhanced the community he is proud to call home; and WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in finance, Mr. Boswell earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University in 1983; and WHEREAS, Specializing in civil trial law, he is a partner with Stapleton, Curtis & Boswell, and he has further served his profession as district director of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and director and president of the Cameron County Bar Association; and WHEREAS, Mayor Boswell's public service began in 1998 with his election to the Harlingen City Commission, on which he has served for a decade; he has also served the commission as mayor pro tem from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2007; he was sworn in as mayor on May 16, 2007; and WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mayor Boswell has distinguished himself as vice chair of the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce and as director and chair of the Harlingen Industrial Foundation; he has also been active with the Northern Cameron County United Way and the Valley Zoological Society Board; and WHEREAS, Mayor Boswell has been devoted to the Boy Scouts for nearly his entire life; since earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1977, he has served as cubmaster, president of the Rio Grande Council, sub-camp chief at the 2001 National Scout Jamboree, and vice president of the Southern Region; his contributions to scouting have been recognized with many badges and awards, including the National Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service Award; and WHEREAS, Supported by the love and devotion of his wife, Anita, and their children, Chris Boswell has given generously of his time, energy, and expertise to his community, and his fellow citizens continue to benefit from the vision and leadership he brings to his role as mayor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Chris Boswell on his service as mayor of Harlingen and extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Boswell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
