44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Through his active participation in public life,
66 Harlingen mayor Chris Boswell has greatly enhanced the community he
77 is proud to call home; and
88 WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin
99 with a bachelor's degree in finance, Mr. Boswell earned his law
1010 degree from Southern Methodist University in 1983; and
1111 WHEREAS, Specializing in civil trial law, he is a partner
1212 with Stapleton, Curtis & Boswell, and he has further served his
1313 profession as district director of the Texas Young Lawyers
1414 Association and director and president of the Cameron County Bar
1515 Association; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mayor Boswell's public service began in 1998 with
1717 his election to the Harlingen City Commission, on which he has
1818 served for a decade; he has also served the commission as mayor pro
1919 tem from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2007; he was sworn in as
2020 mayor on May 16, 2007; and
2121 WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mayor Boswell has
2222 distinguished himself as vice chair of the Harlingen Area Chamber
2323 of Commerce and as director and chair of the Harlingen Industrial
2424 Foundation; he has also been active with the Northern Cameron
2525 County United Way and the Valley Zoological Society Board; and
2626 WHEREAS, Mayor Boswell has been devoted to the Boy Scouts for
2727 nearly his entire life; since earning the rank of Eagle Scout in
2828 1977, he has served as cubmaster, president of the Rio Grande
2929 Council, sub-camp chief at the 2001 National Scout Jamboree, and
3030 vice president of the Southern Region; his contributions to
3131 scouting have been recognized with many badges and awards,
3232 including the National Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service
3333 Award; and
3434 WHEREAS, Supported by the love and devotion of his wife,
3535 Anita, and their children, Chris Boswell has given generously of
3636 his time, energy, and expertise to his community, and his fellow
3737 citizens continue to benefit from the vision and leadership he
3838 brings to his role as mayor; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Chris Boswell on his
4141 service as mayor of Harlingen and extend to him best wishes for
4242 continued success; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for Mayor Boswell as an expression of high regard by the
4545 Texas House of Representatives.
