| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Through his active participation in public life, |

| 6 | 6 | | Harlingen mayor Chris Boswell has greatly enhanced the community he |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | is proud to call home; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | with a bachelor's degree in finance, Mr. Boswell earned his law |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | degree from Southern Methodist University in 1983; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Specializing in civil trial law, he is a partner |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | with Stapleton, Curtis & Boswell, and he has further served his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | profession as district director of the Texas Young Lawyers |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Association and director and president of the Cameron County Bar |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Boswell's public service began in 1998 with |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | his election to the Harlingen City Commission, on which he has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | served for a decade; he has also served the commission as mayor pro |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | tem from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2007; he was sworn in as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | mayor on May 16, 2007; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Mayor Boswell has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | distinguished himself as vice chair of the Harlingen Area Chamber |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of Commerce and as director and chair of the Harlingen Industrial |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Foundation; he has also been active with the Northern Cameron |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | County United Way and the Valley Zoological Society Board; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Boswell has been devoted to the Boy Scouts for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | nearly his entire life; since earning the rank of Eagle Scout in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 1977, he has served as cubmaster, president of the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Council, sub-camp chief at the 2001 National Scout Jamboree, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | vice president of the Southern Region; his contributions to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | scouting have been recognized with many badges and awards, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | including the National Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Award; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Supported by the love and devotion of his wife, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Anita, and their children, Chris Boswell has given generously of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | his time, energy, and expertise to his community, and his fellow |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | citizens continue to benefit from the vision and leadership he |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | brings to his role as mayor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Chris Boswell on his |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | service as mayor of Harlingen and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | continued success; and, be it further |
