| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Pumphrey of Beaumont has been selected as Person |

| 6 | 6 | | of the Year for 2008 by Quota International of Southeast Texas; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont and a graduate of Lamar |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | University, Mr. Pumphrey has worked in the electric utility |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | industry for 29 years and was a television journalist and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | personality in the 1970s; he served as community development |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | coordinator for the City of Beaumont from 1974 to 1978 and, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | beginning in 1979, administered the Project Care senior citizen |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | energy assistance program for Gulf States Utilities Company; he |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | currently works as customer service manager for the Entergy Port |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Arthur Network; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Pumphrey is a perennial volunteer in Nederland |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and Port Arthur, present behind the scenes at countless functions |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | throughout the year; his work in the community has earned him a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | reputation for integrity, efficiency, and optimism, and he is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | renowned for his ability to effectively put available resources to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | use in behalf of area citizens; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has been a member of the boards |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of the St. Anthony Cathedral School, the American Red Cross, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | March of Dimes, the Southeast Texas Quality Workforce Planning |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Committee, and the Port Arthur Public School Foundation; moreover, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | he has served as president of the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the North Port Arthur Rotary Club, the Press Club of Southeast |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Texas, and Boys Haven of America, and as chair of the Nederland |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries of Southeast Texas and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Southwest Louisiana, and the Medical Center of Southeast Texas; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Pumphrey has enjoyed |

| 32 | 32 | | the love and support of his wife, the former Elaine Frazier, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | their children, Nicole and Amy; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Don Pumphrey has long demonstrated his dedication to |

| 35 | 35 | | improving the quality of life for his fellow citizens, and this |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | award justly recognizes him for his generous community efforts; |
