| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Reaching the pinnacle of success in its sport, the |

| 6 | 6 | | girls' basketball team from Midway High School in Waco won the 2009 |

| 7 | 7 | | University Interscholastic League 4A state championship with a |

| 8 | 8 | | 50-27 victory over Mansfield Timberview High School on March 7, |

| 9 | 9 | | 2009; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Capping off a stellar season in which they finished |

| 11 | 11 | | with a record of 35 wins and just 4 losses, the Pantherettes |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | dominated their top-ranked opponent with a stalwart defensive |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | effort; Cokie Reed led the Midway attack, tallying 17 points, 11 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | rebounds, 6 blocked shots, and 3 assists in a performance that |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | earned her the championship game most valuable player award; the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 2009 state title is the seventh in Midway school history and the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | first since 1994; and |

| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Valuable contributions were made throughout the |

| 19 | 19 | | course of the season by each member of the Midway squad; in addition |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to Ms. Reed, the roster includes Kemitria Ward, Jessica Zwernemann, |

| 21 | 21 | | Abbey George, Makenzie Robertson, Dana Neeper, Octavia Perry, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Delisa Gross, Krissica Harper, Toi Gober, Crystal Patterson, Dianna |

| 23 | 23 | | Jones, and Kaylin Shillinglaw; and |

| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Inspired by the team motto, "All in," the |

| 25 | 25 | | Pantherettes were ably guided by head coach Teri Morrison and |

| 26 | 26 | | received additional support from assistant coach Todd Monsey, |

| 27 | 27 | | freshman coach Shatina Lewis, and manager Tyler Zehler; and |

| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the |

| 29 | 29 | | culmination of countless hours of hard work and dedication, and the |

| 30 | 30 | | student-athletes of the Midway High School girls' basketball team |
