H.R. No. 1091 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Jane Hext was honored by the Heritage of Odessa Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of her outstanding civic contributions; and WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who have excelled in their various fields and in their public service endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Mrs. Hext was selected for this accolade in the category of philanthropy; and WHEREAS, The president of the Hext Family Foundation, Mrs. Hext has supported numerous community organizations and has served on the boards of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, the West Texas Food Bank, and the Parks Methodist Retirement Village; she has also been a member of the HEB Feast of Sharing Committee and of Grace Christian Fellowship, and she was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin, as a First Lady by Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, and along with her late husband, Billy Hext, as Citizen of the Year in 1999; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her philanthropic work and to the city of Odessa, and her compassion and generosity are an inspiration to all who know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jane Hext on her receipt of a 2009 Community Statesman Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Hext as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
