| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hext was honored by the Heritage of Odessa |

| 6 | 6 | | Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of |

| 7 | 7 | | her outstanding civic contributions; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | have excelled in their various fields and in their public service |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Mrs. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Hext was selected for this accolade in the category of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | philanthropy; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The president of the Hext Family Foundation, Mrs. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Hext has supported numerous community organizations and has served |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | on the boards of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, the West Texas Food |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Bank, and the Parks Methodist Retirement Village; she has also been |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | a member of the HEB Feast of Sharing Committee and of Grace |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Christian Fellowship, and she was recognized as a Woman of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Distinction by the Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin, as a First Lady |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | by Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, and along with her late |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | husband, Billy Hext, as Citizen of the Year in 1999; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has demonstrated an unwavering |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | commitment to her philanthropic work and to the city of Odessa, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | her compassion and generosity are an inspiration to all who know |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | her; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jane Hext on her receipt of a 2009 |

| 31 | 31 | | Community Statesman Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
