| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lakewood Elementary School in Dallas has been named |

| 6 | 6 | | a 2008 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon School, an honor awarded to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the nation's most successful schools; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created by the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | U.S. Department of Education in 1982 and was redesigned in 2002 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | under the No Child Left Behind Act; to qualify for nomination, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | schools must demonstrate academic superiority within their state or |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | show dramatic gains in student achievement; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, One of only 26 public schools in Texas to receive |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | this prestigious award, Lakewood Elementary has been providing a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | solid educational foundation for its students since its |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | establishment in 1951; under the skilled leadership of principal |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Michelle Thompson and assistant principal Cynthia Burley, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | school serves more than 600 students from prekindergarten to fifth |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | grade; it has been rated as a "recognized" school by the Texas |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Education Agency; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through commitment, hard work, and perseverance, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the teachers and students of Lakewood Elementary have attained an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | impressive record of academic excellence, and their outstanding |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | accomplishments have been fittingly recognized with this Blue |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Ribbon School designation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor Lakewood Elementary School on its |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | selection as a 2008 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon School and |

| 29 | 29 | | extend to its teachers, students, and staff sincere best wishes for |
