Hexter Elementary School in Dallas has been nominated for the 2009 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon Schools award; and WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 and was redesigned in 2002 under the No Child Left Behind Act; to qualify for nomination, schools must demonstrate academic superiority within their state or show dramatic gains in student achievement; and WHEREAS, Each year, the State of Texas designates up to 26 schools to be considered for this distinguished accolade, and in 2009, Victor H. Hexter Elementary School is among the select group of nominees representing the Lone Star State; with an enrollment of 465 students in grades prekindergarten through fifth, this notable institution seeks to prepare all students for college, while embracing their individual talents and developing their potential; skillfully led by principal Jolee Healey, Hexter Elementary has obtained an Exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency as well as an Excellence in Education Award for three consecutive years, and it has received the Texas Successful School System Award; and WHEREAS, Through commitment, hard work, and perseverance, the teachers and students of Victor H. Hexter Elementary School have accomplished a record of academic achievement, and their outstanding efforts indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Victor H. Hexter Elementary School on its nomination for the 2009 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon Schools award and extend to its teachers, students, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
