| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Victor H. Hexter Elementary School in Dallas has |

| 6 | 6 | | been nominated for the 2009 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon |

| 7 | 7 | | Schools award; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created by the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | U.S. Department of Education in 1982 and was redesigned in 2002 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | under the No Child Left Behind Act; to qualify for nomination, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | schools must demonstrate academic superiority within their state or |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | show dramatic gains in student achievement; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the State of Texas designates up to 26 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | schools to be considered for this distinguished accolade, and in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 2009, Victor H. Hexter Elementary School is among the select group |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of nominees representing the Lone Star State; with an enrollment of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 465 students in grades prekindergarten through fifth, this notable |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | institution seeks to prepare all students for college, while |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | embracing their individual talents and developing their potential; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | skillfully led by principal Jolee Healey, Hexter Elementary has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | obtained an Exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | well as an Excellence in Education Award for three consecutive |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | years, and it has received the Texas Successful School System |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Award; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through commitment, hard work, and perseverance, |

| 26 | 26 | | the teachers and students of Victor H. Hexter Elementary School |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | have accomplished a record of academic achievement, and their |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | outstanding efforts indeed merit special recognition; now, |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Victor H. Hexter Elementary School on its |
