| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Tarrant County Black Historical and |

| 6 | 6 | | Genealogical Society celebrated the grand opening of the Lenora |

| 7 | 7 | | Rolla Heritage Center on February 22, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1977, the Tarrant County Black Historical |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and Genealogical Society is a nonprofit public service organization |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | dedicated to preserving African American heritage; genealogical |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | research is one of the organization's primary focuses, and its |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | efforts toward discovering the family histories of local residents |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | have revealed ancestries that stretch back to the original 13 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | American colonies; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Lenora Rolla Heritage Center is located in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Terrell Heights Historic District of Fort Worth in a building that |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | has been designated a historical and cultural landmark; the center |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | will house the society's offices as well as a museum of artifacts |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | with historical significance to local families of African descent; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Recognition of the rich cultural legacies of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | state's residents provides all Texans with a deeper understanding |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of their shared history, and the Lenora Rolla Heritage Center |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | promises to be an outstanding resource that will help communicate |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the fascinating and inspiring saga of the African American citizens |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of Tarrant County; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the Lenora |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Rolla Heritage Center and extend to members and supporters of the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society sincere |

| 31 | 31 | | best wishes for continued success with the organization's important |
