44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, In honor of her notable contributions to the
66 community, Sandi Newkirk has been selected as a 2009 Minority
77 Achiever by the YMCA of Greater Houston; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Kendleton, Ms. Newkirk was instrumental
99 in the founding of the Fort Bend County Heritage Unlimited Museum,
1010 the first African American Museum to be established in the county;
1111 she currently serves as chair of the museum's executive board and
1212 has done so since the institution was created; and
1313 WHEREAS, This dedicated civic leader has also served on the
1414 Kendleton Mayor's Advisory Committee, the Care for Elders Consumer
1515 Advisory Council in Harris County, and the Fort Bend County
1616 Historical Commission; and
1717 WHEREAS, Sandi Newkirk has given admirably of her time and
1818 energy to aid her community and to ensure that African American
1919 regional history is preserved and shared, and her efforts are duly
2020 recognized with this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2222 Legislature hereby congratulate Sandi Newkirk on her selection as a
2323 2009 Minority Achiever by the YMCA of Greater Houston and extend to
2424 her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
2525 be it further
2626 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2727 prepared for Ms. Newkirk as an expression of high regard by the
2828 Texas House of Representatives.
