| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In honor of her notable contributions to the |

| 6 | 6 | | community, Sandi Newkirk has been selected as a 2009 Minority |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Achiever by the YMCA of Greater Houston; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Kendleton, Ms. Newkirk was instrumental |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in the founding of the Fort Bend County Heritage Unlimited Museum, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the first African American Museum to be established in the county; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | she currently serves as chair of the museum's executive board and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | has done so since the institution was created; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This dedicated civic leader has also served on the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Kendleton Mayor's Advisory Committee, the Care for Elders Consumer |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Advisory Council in Harris County, and the Fort Bend County |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Historical Commission; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Sandi Newkirk has given admirably of her time and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | energy to aid her community and to ensure that African American |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | regional history is preserved and shared, and her efforts are duly |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | recognized with this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sandi Newkirk on her selection as a |

| 23 | 23 | | 2009 Minority Achiever by the YMCA of Greater Houston and extend to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, |
