 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the
 passing of Ramiro Juarez Bernal of San Antonio on May 7, 2008, at
 the age of 83; and
 WHEREAS, Born on January 30, 1925, in San Antonio, Mr. Bernal
 graduated from Lanier High School and helped the school's
 basketball team win a state championship in 1943; he answered his
 nation's call to duty by serving in the U.S. Army during World War
 II, and he was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his
 courageous actions as a member of the 1st Infantry Division in
 Europe; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Bernal was employed in auto body and paint shops
 following the war and eventually co-owned a repair business for
 several years; he then pursued a career in the insurance industry,
 working for many years at Allstate as an insurance adjuster and a
 sales agent until his retirement at the age of 71; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan carried his love of basketball
 with him throughout his life, finding time on nights and weekends to
 play and officiate city league games in San Antonio; he was active
 in the sport until his late 60s and helped found the city's first
 Catholic Youth Organization basketball program; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Bernal enjoyed the love
 and support of his wife, Mary Louise, their two daughters, Linda and
 Roseanna, and their son, Rudy, who is the head basketball coach at
 Lanier High, his father's alma mater; and
 WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, Ramiro Bernal leaves
 behind a legacy of service to his country, to his family, and to the
 sport he loved, and he will long be remembered with great admiration
 and affection by his friends and loved ones; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ramiro Juarez Bernal
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 wife, Mary Louise Bernal; to his children, Rudy Bernal, Linda Mora,
 and Roseanna Vega; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ramiro
 Bernal.
