5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bert Pfeister of San Antonio is rendering |
---|
6 | 6 | | outstanding humanitarian service in his role as president and CEO |
---|
7 | 7 | | of Respite Care; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A nonprofit agency, Respite Care was founded in 1987 |
---|
9 | 9 | | to fill a gap in services provided to children with special needs; |
---|
10 | 10 | | its programs include a child daycare along with Mother's Day Out, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Family Day Out, and Parents Night Out; the organization also |
---|
12 | 12 | | operates the Davidson Respite House Emergency Shelter, which |
---|
13 | 13 | | provides temporary and emergency housing for children with |
---|
14 | 14 | | developmental disabilities or complex medical diagnoses who are |
---|
15 | 15 | | taken into state custody from all over Texas; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Under Mr. Pfeister's direction, Respite Care has |
---|
17 | 17 | | been licensed as a foster care placement agency for children with |
---|
18 | 18 | | special and habilitative needs; the agency also provides training |
---|
19 | 19 | | and support for prospective foster parents, to help them cope with |
---|
20 | 20 | | the challenges they will face and to assist them in enabling their |
---|
21 | 21 | | children to reach their full potential; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In order to define community services that best |
---|
23 | 23 | | support families with special needs children, Respite Care served |
---|
24 | 24 | | as the lead agency in a five-year research initiative, a study |
---|
25 | 25 | | funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and |
---|
26 | 26 | | completed in 2008; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, About six years ago, Mr. Pfeister became the foster |
---|
28 | 28 | | parent of three siblings, aged three, four, and five, who were in |
---|
29 | 29 | | the care of Davidson Respite House; several years ago he completed |
---|
30 | 30 | | the adoption process, and today, his sons and daughter are |
---|
31 | 31 | | thriving; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Formerly an executive with AT&T, Bert Pfeister has |
---|
33 | 33 | | brought deeply caring, committed, and energetic leadership to his |
---|
34 | 34 | | work at Respite Care, and together with that agency's skilled and |
---|
35 | 35 | | dedicated staff, he is providing programs of immeasurable value to |
---|
36 | 36 | | many young Texans; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor Bert Pfeister for his sterling work as |
---|
39 | 39 | | president and CEO of Respite Care and extend to him sincere best |
---|
40 | 40 | | wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it |
