 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Brazos Bend State Park has served the residents of
 Texas and visitors to the Lone Star State for 25 years, and staff,
 volunteers, and members of the public are celebrating this
 significant milestone on April 4, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Located approximately 28 miles southwest of
 Houston, Brazos Bend State Park opened to the public in 1984, and it
 has since hosted more than five million visitors; much of the
 5,000-acre area is located in the Brazos River floodplains, and in
 addition to the river, the park includes six lakes, a creek, and a
 bayou; it is well known for its population of American alligators,
 which are visible from several observation points, and the area is
 also home to numerous species of dragonfly, mammals, and birds; and
 WHEREAS, The park's grand live oaks provide shade for
 visitors who can choose from a variety of campsites for overnight
 stays or picnic areas for day use; moreover, there is a range of
 activities available, including walking on the Creekfield Lake
 Nature Trail, hiking or biking on designated trails, touring the
 Habitats and Niches display at the nature center, and viewing the
 night sky at the George Observatory, a satellite facility of the
 Houston Museum of Natural Science; its distinctive topography and
 diverse recreational opportunities earned the park a ranking on
 America's Top Ten State Parks published by National Geographic
 Traveler; and
 WHEREAS, Brazos Bend is one of the region's most popular
 tourist attractions, regularly generating several million dollars
 in sales income; the park's success is due in part to the support of
 the Brazos Bend State Park Volunteer Organization, which was
 established in 1989 and has been recognized for its remarkable
 number of volunteer hours; and
 WHEREAS, For a quarter of a century, Brazos Bend State Park
 has provided adventure, leisure, solace, and more to people of all
 ages and backgrounds, and it is indeed fitting to honor this natural
 gem for its contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Brazos Bend
 State Park and extend to its staff and volunteers sincere
 appreciation for their outstanding efforts in behalf of the park;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Brazos Bend State Park as an expression of high regard
 by the Texas House of Representatives.
