| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In the nearly three-year period since it was |

| 6 | 6 | | founded, the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps has proven to be a |

| 7 | 7 | | positive force in helping students at Bedichek Middle School in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Austin prepare for the future; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Created in 2006, the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | designed to instill the values of citizenship, service, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | personal responsibility in its cadets as well as provide them with a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | sense of accomplishment; the program is open to Bedichek students |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in the sixth through eighth grades and helps participants develop |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | leadership skills, strengthen their character, and learn effective |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | self-discipline; the cadets are guided by Staff Sergeant Darrick |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Norton, a former marine and a member of the school's faculty; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This innovative program requires its cadets to pass |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | all their courses, demonstrate high moral standards, and adhere to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a strict code of conduct; no commitment to future military service |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | is required of BJMC cadets, and the lessons taught by the program |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | are intended to benefit them in all walks of life; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Bedichek Junior Marine Corps program helps young |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | people develop a range of admirable skills and values, and it is a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | pleasure to recognize its worthwhile achievements; now, therefore, |

| 25 | 25 | | be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps for its |

| 28 | 28 | | contribution to the development of informed, responsible citizens |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and extend to all those involved with the program sincere best |
|---|
