5	5	WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
6	6	meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
7	7	of Alma "Mozelle" Thomas of Potosi, who passed away on March 7,
8	8	2009, at the age of 88; and
9	9	WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mozelle Thomas was
10	10	born in Dickens County on August 26, 1920, the eldest of 12
11	11	children; she grew up in Spur and graduated from the local high
12	12	school; and
13	13	WHEREAS, In 1962, Mrs. Thomas began a distinguished career
14	14	with Taylor County when she accepted a position as assistant
15	15	treasurer of the county; she was elected county treasurer in 1970,
16	16	and served four terms before retiring in 1986; during her exemplary
17	17	tenure, the Taylor County Coliseum and the present Taylor County
18	18	Courthouse were built; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Mrs. Thomas loved to travel and was a faithful
20	20	member of Wylie Baptist Church, where she was active in the People
21	21	Enjoying People club and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program;
22	22	she also enjoyed participation in the Texas Retired Treasurer's
23	23	Association, the Family and Community Education Club, and the
24	24	Potosi Quilting Club; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, she was a loving wife to her
26	26	husband, the late Hayden Thomas, and a caring mother to her
27	27	children, Russell and Marilyn; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Mozelle Thomas provided an outstanding example of
29	29	citizenship and service to others, and while she will be greatly
30	30	missed, the legacy she leaves behind will not soon be forgotten;
31	31	now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
33	33	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alma "Mozelle" Thomas
34	34	and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
35	35	son, Russell Thomas, and his wife, Connie; to her daughter, Marilyn
36	36	Swilling, and her husband, Scott; to her brothers, Max and Neal
37	37	Holloway; to her sisters, Lois Lusko, Jean Peters, and Jane
38	38	Colburn; to her grandchildren, Travis Thomas and his wife, Kim,
39	39	Tami Hull and her husband, Ted, Trent Thomas and his wife, Brittney,
40	40	and Rain Davis and her husband, Nick; to her two
41	41	step-grandchildren, Jeremy and Kelly Swilling; to her seven
42	42	great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Hull, Jurnee, Tripp, and
43	43	Ketch Miles Thomas, and Sky and Shada Davis; and to her other
44	44	relatives and many friends; and, be it further
45	45	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
46	46	prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
47	47	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alma
48	48	"Mozelle" Thomas.
