44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Frank S.
66 Adams of Corpus Christi, who died on February 14, 2009, at the age
77 of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, Frank Adams was born in Oklahoma on January 29,
99 1927, to Lucille and Joyce B. Adams; he moved with his family to
1010 Corpus Christi in 1937; and
1111 WHEREAS, Following his graduation from Corpus Christi High
1212 School in 1943, Mr. Adams attended Texas A&M University, where he
1313 was a member of the Corps of Cadets; he later earned a degree in
1414 banking from Southern Methodist University; and
1515 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
1616 II, Mr. Adams served with the U.S. Navy in Guam; after the war, Mr.
1717 Adams was joined in marriage to Lena Faye Gent in 1948, and over the
1818 years they were blessed with two children, four grandchildren, and
1919 two great-grandchildren; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Adams began his career in the used car business,
2121 serving as the finance manager of Lewis Boggus Ford; he then went on
2222 to a successful career in banking, working first with the Bank of
2323 Commerce and then American Bank; and
2424 WHEREAS, From 1971 to 1995, Mr. Adams was president of
2525 American Bank, and he continued serving the institution as a member
2626 of the board of directors until his retirement at age 80; he was an
2727 energetic and competitive banker, affectionately known as
2828 "Friendly Frank" to his colleagues and other associates; and
2929 WHEREAS, Mr. Adams was also well known for the customer
3030 service seminars he conducted across the state, and he made those
3131 programs even more memorable by handing out silver dollars and
3232 American flag lapel pins to participants; he further shared his
3333 expertise by teaching at the Texas Tech University School of
3434 Banking and by serving as president and director of the Independent
3535 Bankers Association of Texas; and
3636 WHEREAS, Despite his numerous professional responsibilities,
3737 Mr. Adams was engaged in his community as a member of the Jaycees,
3838 as an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, and for many
3939 years as a member of the Nueces County Parks Board; in his leisure
4040 time, he enjoyed sharing stories with loved ones and fishing at his
4141 second home in Boerne; and
4242 WHEREAS, Frank Adams was well respected in his profession and
4343 beloved by his family and friends, and the memory of his warm and
4444 outgoing nature will forever be treasured by those whose lives he
4545 touched; now, therefore, be it
4646 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4747 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frank S. Adams and
4848 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife
4949 of 60 years, Lena Faye Adams; to his son, Larry James Adams, and his
5050 wife, Katy; to his daughter, Sandra Joyce Adams; to his grandsons,
5151 Steven Craig Adams and his wife, Lise, David Patrick Adams and his
5252 wife, Staci, Alan Thomas Adams and his wife, Jessica, and Jack Trent
5353 Adams; to his great-grandchildren, Carter and Ellie Adams; and to
5454 his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5555 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5656 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5757 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank S.
5858 Adams.
