5	5	WHEREAS, The passing of George Hammon Cardiff of Katy on
6	6	October 29, 2007, at the age of 76, brought a profound loss to all
7	7	those who were fortunate enough to know him; and
8	8	WHEREAS, One of the seven sons of Ruth Genevive and John
9	9	Victor Cardiff, George Hammon Cardiff was born in Houston on
10	10	January 30, 1931; he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, serving his
11	11	country in the Korean War, and he attended the University of
12	12	Houston; Mr. Cardiff's relatives, among the early settlers of the
13	13	Katy Prairie, farmed rice for many years, and after closing his
14	14	family's farm, he went to work for Brookshire-Katy Drainage
15	15	District; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Mr. Cardiff became a supervisor at the district in
17	17	1974, and he held this position until 1983, when he was named
18	18	superintendent of field operations; in April 2006, he retired after
19	19	more than three decades of outstanding service; throughout his
20	20	career, Mr. Cardiff was active in the Texas Water Conservation
21	21	Association, just as his father had been some years earlier; in
22	22	addition to participating in many of the organization's committee
23	23	functions, he was instrumental in the development of the Drainage
24	24	Districts Panel, for which he was a charter director, and he was
25	25	later awarded an Honorary Life Membership for his significant
26	26	contributions to the association; and
27	27	WHEREAS, A respected citizen, Mr. Cardiff was involved in his
28	28	community as a leader of the local cub scout chapter, charter member
29	29	of the City of Katy home rule committee, and faithful congregant at
30	30	First United Methodist Church of Katy; in all of his endeavors, he
31	31	enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Alby, their two children,
32	32	Candace and Craig, and their grandson, David; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Known for his sense of humor and storytelling
34	34	ability, George Cardiff enriched the lives of many with his kind and
35	35	generous manner, and he will long be remembered with great
36	36	admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
38	38	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of George Hammon Cardiff
39	39	and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
40	40	wife of more than 50 years, Alby Bay Cardiff; to his daughter,
41	41	Candace Cardiff Latham; to his son, Craig Cardiff; to his grandson,
42	42	David Latham, Jr.; to his brother, Robert Cardiff, and his wife,
43	43	Evelyn; to his brother-in-law, Leon Bay, and his wife, Elsa; to his
44	44	sisters-in-law, Faye Cardiff, Elaine Kuchenbecker and her husband,
45	45	Richard, Doris Cardiff, and Betty Cardiff; to his many nieces and
46	46	nephews; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
48	48	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
49	49	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George
50	50	Hammon Cardiff.
